Creator Spotlight: Sarekh

Welcome to our Creator spotlight!

Continuing our series of Space Engineers Creator Spotlights with Sarekh.

Hey, I am Sarekh, some of you may know me from my colonized world scenarios! I started playing Space Engineers back in February 2014 and it has been by far my most played game. Right from the beginning I used it to experiment with new design ideas for my own sci-fi world. As the game grew more powerful, so expanded my ideas, even though it took a long time before I got the hang of actual, good designing.

I spent  a lot of time in the Keen Forum, exchanging ideas, partaking in the F5 wars on Patchmas Thursdays… it was the first gaming community I was actually engaged in.

Before dedicated servers, I had a second computer online that had a 16km world online, free for everyone to join. And when the game became more stable and powerful, my ideas became more ambitious as well.

My focus back then was and still is the expansion of my world, the Akhinnae Empire. I have created mods, worlds, scenarios, blueprints and videos about this alien culture. It is an ancient, rigidly aristocratic empire with 15 noble Houses that run most affairs in the name of the Crown. Over the last few decades in that world, an unaligned, early-stage capitalist movement has disrupted society and I am trying to explore this conflict and the lore behind it in my worlds and scenarios. Most of my work goes into my colonized world scenarios where you can freely travel across multiple planets, explore settlements and cities, go into every single room and read about everything from weather reports to love letters, from military logs to news articles on sports.

Space Engineers is a very open sandbox game and it is both incredibly easy and at the same time very difficult to create lore-driven content with it. But few things make me as happy as users telling me they enjoyed exploring my worlds and reading my texts. Over time, I started to create supporting mods for my worlds, especially LCD packages and sound files. All this work has culminated in a comprehensive collection of background information and I have finally made the next step and am writing a book about my Empire. You can find some of the pages in my worlds, hidden in collectible text pads. Why don’t you hop in and read a chapter or two?

Narsut System

My currently newest scenario – an open world where you play a scrapper on a remote desert planet, driving from settlement to settlement to get more contracts.

Making Planetfall

A pure building scenario for everyone who just wants to mine and build.

You’re playing a member of an advance unit that will create the first buildings for a future colony.

Micropolis – Visiting the town of Mikhus

A documentary made entirely in Space Engineers about one of the smallest cities in the Akhinnae Empire.

Operation Spearhead – a fighter scenario

Welcome aboard the Soraia, your last stop before the big leagues!

A space fighter scenario where you take on the role of a junior fighter pilot on their last training mission going awry when the system you’re patrolling is attacked by an unknown force.

Acolin System – a fully colonized world

Another of my open world scenarios. Here, the player is an imperial investigator and has to find some rogue elements in the system while freely exploring several settlements, stations and vessels.
