BUG REPORTING
If you have encountered a bug while playing Space Engineers, you can report it by posting it on our dedicated support site.
Your bug report will be checked and our team will do its best to resolve it.
How to report a bug
Please send us a message via: support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers
Provide as much detailed information as you can. Write a synopsis of what you were doing before the error happened. Taking a screenshot of the bug or a video may also also help. Support staff will request additional information as is needed.
Attach the log file:
C:\Users\{YOUR WINDOWS USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\SpaceEngineers.log
This file gets overwritten on each game launch.
(If you have difficulties finding the log file, press WIN+R, in the box that will open paste %APPDATA%\SpaceEngineers and press enter.
The log file folder will open, the text document named ‘SpaceEngineers’ is the log file.)
Attach one or all save folders. You have to enable hidden files in order to see the Save folder. Save folders may contain MBs of data, be careful when sending them. Emails usually don’t like attachments larger than 10 MB):
c:\Users\{YOUR WINDOWS USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves\
What if you can’t find the AppData Folder? Run “Folder Options”, then go to the View tab and click the option that says “Show hidden files, folders, and drives” so you are able to see hidden folders, then you should be able to see it.

WINDOWS 10 ISSUES / SOLUTIONS
Check for more info here: http://forum.keenswh.com/threads/windows-10-information-troubleshooting.7366738/
Problem: Space Engineers won’t open with default settings (DirectX 11)
Solution: Open %appdata%\SpaceEngineers\SpaceEngineers.cfg in a plain text editor like notepad. Find GraphicsRenderer – it is usually near the top. Change its value to DirectX 11.
Problem: Space Engineers won’t open (DirectX 11 or DirectX 11 not support by hardware)
Solution: This is caused by hardware and driver support issues mentioned above. We recommend using the latest drivers directly from the hardware designers. We do NOT recommend the use of “Beta” drivers.
NVIDIA – http://www.geforce.com/drivers
AMD – http://support.amd.com
Intel – https://downloadcenter.intel.com
Problem: Space Engineers is dark and grey in appearance
Solution: This sometimes happens because of the Steam overlay. In the Steam client click the Steam menu > Settings. Click the In-Game tab and uncheck the Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game checkbox. Click OK.
Problem: Space Engineers doesn’t display properly or the menu buttons can’t be seen.
Solution: Try running in Windows 10 in compatibility mode (http://www.windows10forums.com/articles/compatibility-mode.7).
You can try Windows 7 and Windows 8 modes to find which works better for you. This is usually a good workaround until there are updates for your drivers and for Windows 10 compatibility.
The exe files for space engineers can be found here (default location)
32-bit C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SpaceEngineers\Bin\SpaceEngineers.exe
64-bit C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SpaceEngineers\Bin64\SpaceEngineers.exe
Problem: SpaceEngineers can’t access SpaceEngineers.cfg, SpaceEngineers.log or other files.
Cannot create log file: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path ‘C:\Users\YourUserNameHere\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\SpaceEngineers.log’ is denied.
Solution: Some users are reporting this problem after switching to Windows 10. In some cases we have found that the users have copied files from their old operating system to the new one. In other cases it seems to be an issue created by the Windows 10 upgrade. This creates the problem where the old files have different ownership credentials from the new user account on Windows 10. This prevents Space Engineers from accessing them.
The solution in this case is to
Rename or move the %appdata%\SpaceEngineers folder to a different location.
Start the game and have it create new folders by…
Creating a new custom world with at least one mod enabled
Creating a new blueprint
This will create blueprints, mods, and saves folders as well as new cfg and log files.
Then copy your the contents of your old saves and blueprints folders into these new folders in %appdata%\SpaceEngineers.
Do not overwrite the new cfg and log files.
3rd PARTY PROGRAMS
It has been reported that some 3rd party programs can cause in-game issues, game not starting or black screen. In this case, you will have to disable these programs in order to run the game. Below is the list of the 3rd party programs that have been reported so far.
– Lucid Virtu MVP
– MacType
– LogMeIn
– xFire
– Carbonite Backup
